Correct Care Recovery Solutions (CCRS) has partnered with the Massachusetts Department of Corrections to comprehensively manage and provide medical and mental health care, forensic mental health evaluation and treatment, substance abuse treatment and dental services to patients at Bridgewater State Hospital. CCRS is seeking qualified professionals to be part of this innovative program that will deliver care in accordance with a person-centered, trauma-informed recovery/resiliency philosophy. Our Nurse Educator develops, reviews and implements training to assure that nursing staff are trained to function in a competent, proficient manner in order to meet the needs of adults with serious and persistent mental illness, substance use disorders, and chronic medical problems.


Education for Nurse Educator:

  • Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing or other healthcare related field.

Experience for Nurse Educator:

  • A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience in psychiatric mental health nursing is required, preferably with an additional two (2) to three (3) years of educator experience.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills required.

  • Joint Commission knowledge and experience preferred.

  • Experience in Performance Improvement preferred.

Licenses/Certifications for Nurse Educator:

  • Must hold a current license as a Registered Nurse, or qualify for same through reciprocity with another state board of nursing.


  1. Develops, coordinates and implements educational programs for nursing staff, including ongoing curriculum needs.

  2. Incorporates all current regulatory requirements into nursing education programs.

  3. Works with the Human Resources department to provide training for nursing staff.

  4. Assist the Chief Nursing Officer with corrective actions, coaching and counseling employees in all situations related to their work performance.

  5. Plans and coordinates all aspects of orientation for nursing department staff (RN, LPN and MHT).

  6. Plans and presents recertification classes and continuing education programs to enhance and maintain the knowledge of hospital employees.

  7. Develops or revises continuing education offerings related to psychiatric and medical care, based on requests or identified needs by management and other staff members.

  8. Communicates scheduled classes in a timely manner and offers flexibility in scheduling.

  9. Maintains complete and accurate records, and submits educational information to the Human Resources Department.

  10. Monitors the progress of nursing staff in meeting educational goals and maintains training data base.

  11. Ensures that staff competencies are assessed and documented during the orientation period and annually.

  12. Develops and presents in-service and/or continuing education, as requested by the Chief Nursing Officer.

  13. Participates in the Performance Improvement program by monitoring specific aspects of patient care as required by the Nursing Department.

  14. Develops competencies relating to work task expectations in accordance with specific nursing staff positions, and ensures these are updated and current.

  15. Develops self-studies that enhance the delivery of nursing care at the facility.

  16. Works cooperatively with nursing school programs in the community to provide the opportunity for clinical practice development and placement for students. Provides orientation and additional training to nursing students and functions as a mentor during clinical rotation. Works collaboratively with nursing instructors to ensure that clinical practice goals are met in a safe and positive learning environment.

  17. Collaborates with the nursing management team in complying with Joint Commission standards, state, federal and local policy requirements.

  18. Develops, reviews and revises policies as required.

  19. Ensures all teaching materials are up to date, meet all regulatory requirements, and are current and evidence-based.

  20. Regularly goes to all units and monitors all nursing activities to identify any deficiencies and develop teaching plan to address all deficiencies, including both clinical practice and documentation

  21. Flexible hours are expected and may include weekends and nights.

  22. Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a variety of practical and emergent situations and accurately follow standardized procedures that may call for deviations.

  23. Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of instructions and apply knowledge to different factual situations.

  24. Must be alert at all times; pay close attention to details.

  25. Must be able to work under stress on a regular or continuous basis.

  26. Perform other duties as assigned.
